Some years ago we did research on the peak and typically found a significant drop in winds with a rise in temp (sometimes 10F) just 200' over the side. That was a combination of the heating from the granite, shielding, and the mountain wave. The air just above us would be turbulent and cooler. In at least one previous A&M we had a glider fly over and around the east side, so plenty of wind/lift. So I always give the actual summit some latitude in conditions. Good forecast today, didn't see any lighting until we started to leave the summit. Back again tomorrow morning.
