I'm not surprised. The heat definitely got to me. I was one of the DNF's. I actually made the Barr Camp cutoff (2:55:xx), but after dealing with nasty viral crud all week I decided to call it a day at that point. It was a little disconcerting too when the volunteers told me I didn't look good, and 2:55 was considerably slower than my Barr Camp arrival time during my successful Ascent last year. I know the heat was definitely part of the picture, but I think the bigger issue for me was my respiratory situation (with the heat alone, I figured I could slog through and make the overall 6:30 cutoff). It looks like the finish times this year were slower than last year, and I figure the heat factored in that too. Congrats to all who finished!
