Randy - well said. You WILL get to the top and earn the medal and shirt - but most importantly, the bragging rights of racing to the top of Pikes Peak.
As for training - I live in Texas. I train on the treadmill at a 11-13% incline for about 4-5 miles 1x a week, 3 mos out from race date. As for my long runs - I run the first 2 hours then walk working up to a total of 4 - 4.5 hours. I train in the HEAT of the summer. I have been told the heat is similar to altitude as far as your red blood cells are concerned.
I have completed Pikes Peak Ascent 4 years; I gotta say, this year was the toughest for me.
Good luck - you will get there.
