No, the entry dates are clearly marked on the entry page. Folks who want to run the PPA/PPM know when registration opens. They have never relied on an email blast or fb notification to remind them. I've also never seen an advertisement for the race.
What the RD and Registrar have done is ratchet down the qualifications a touch each year in an attempt to not let the registration become a race in and of itself.
Having an event that fills in a matter of minutes is not in the runner's best interest. It locks out a lot of otherwise perfectly qualified folks who have jobs that do not allow them to sit at keyboard. As shown time and time again, the team running this race care about the runners first and foremost. It is a non-profit race organization run mostly by volunteers; they are not in it to simply make money or play the supply-demand curve to their advantage like some other organizations (*chough*leadville*chough*).
