I drove to the top this morning (8-12-2014). I arrived at the toll gate at 10:30am and there was a waiting line of about 20 cars with only one of the three toll booths open. A minute or two later, they opened a second booth. Just before I got my pass, they opened a third toll booth. My total wait was 8 minutes. When I left at 1:30pm there were two booths open and line was only two cars long.
From on top you get one of the better views of the Continental Divide and the row of 14ers. It was quite hazy today, but I think all the snowcaps may be gone. Another view that is often overlooked unless pointed out is the Gold Mine between Cripple Creek and Victor. Best views are when you first start down the PP Hwy. It is an open mine and a scar on the landscape that encompasses several square miles. See Google Maps, earth view.
