The main difference is the cost to get everybody off of the mountain. That requires 40+ vans and a few buses. Then there is the extra expense of moving the entire finish line and support staff (aid station, medical, jackets, etc) to the summit. And while the entry cost of the marathon is cheaper, you pay for it dearly when you get to the top and remember that you still have to run down :-) What I find totally amazing is that they can offer the PPA and PPM for less than the cost of some flat half marathons.
