I can't believe you have to pay that much for gels! If you ever do decide to go with them...or a combo of them and "real" food (my approach, by the way), I'd order them online. I'm a big fan of Cif Shots or the Clif Shot Blocks. Both of which can be found on REI.com. Another gel I've had success with is the E-Gel fron Cranksports. You can buy a variety pack.
