I suggest around 12:00 minute miles through town to just past the COG railway then back off and go with the flow through the W's which is not the place to do a lot of passing. There is plenty of trail for passing after no name creek. Keep in mind 4 hr. is about 17:00 minute miles which is my time in a good year. P.S. the mile markers start with "12 miles to go" so it is 1.32 miles in and the first three markers have been a little off the last few years.

I'm a 1:50 midwest half-marathoner and first time PPA. My goal (which may be aggressive) is to break 4 hours. Reading a lot of Boards and watching YouTube videos, I'm concerned about getting stuck too far back in the pack by the time we hit the W's that I may not be able to make my goal. However, I keep reading that you shouldn't push too hard at the start "or you'll pay for it later above tree-line".
So I'm looking for advice on how to pace myself on Ruxton so that I don't go out too hard but don't get stuck too far back in the "congo line".
My plan is to talk to lots of folks in the starting area and find someone with experience finishing at 4 hours and try staying on their heels.
Any other thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
