Confused,,, u saying effort or pace? I think effort is exactly the point--you can't possibly maintain the same pace in these races--will NOT HAPPEN even for the best runners,,, the terrain and elevation change and so too must your pace,,, so EFFORT and not pace is the key. I'm no expert but the person who's won these races more than anyone talks about this,,, can't agrue with success!
