First timer - do I need trail shoes?

Why I suggest you consider something other than road shoes ... road shoes lack traction; this comes into play on rocks, especially wet rocks, and in gravel that functions like ball bearings underfoot Road shoes are soft: even though you land lightly going up hill, the surface under foot is anything but smooth. your foot and metatarsals are continuously being deformed. Four hour of this can make your foot very sore. A hard layer known as a rock shield can be desirable. Enjoy your time on the Mountain! - Fred
