When I lived in Kansas and came to Colorado I always got a debilitating headache, one time I was told to take TUMS for the headache and it worked great, that was over twenty years ago and I have told many people about that and it always worked. I was told altitude headaches are similar to the deep sea bends and what causes the headache is nitrogen bubbles in the blood when one goes to a higher altitude. The TUMS dissolves the nitrogen bubbles and the headache goes away. I don’t know if altitude headaches and altitude sickness are the same thing or not but I am so thankful for that waitress in Pizza Hut in Gunnison, CO. in 1991 for telling me about TUMS. PS. I live in Colorado Springs now. In response to: So, does one take Tums proactively? Upon arrival? Before or during the race? Or only if one develops a headache or nausea?
