I agree. I've been taking ginger pills religiously before my hill/sprint workouts with my running club and on my trail runs and hikes up 14ers. I used to have a really weak stomach and would vomit at the drop of a hat--I still have a little nausea when I push it but the ginger has definitely helped (of course, just training more helps too. :) And I have the advantage that I live in CO.) I've been recommending ibuprofen for prevention of AMS--as a physician, I've read some decent studies that it can help. When I was on the Barr Trail last week, the man who gave me a ride down happened to be a physician doing altitude research on the summit. He agreed that ibuprofen helps and would recommend it--though the only mechanism of action we could come up with is that its anti-inflammatory properties may help decrease the brain swelling and fluid buildup in the lungs. Just be sure to take it with food. I took Diamox on a trip to the Himalayas a few years ago, and it made me miserable--learned the hard way never to take that again.
