Chip timing

I read the info on the new chip timing tonight. I'm a bit concerned, particularly the phrase "pause briefly as you pass the start line so the system can register your chip". If the system is that iffy, what happens when some in the mass of runners cross the start line and not "pause", which of course won't and likely cannot lest they get run over, so do not get credited with a start time. Same problem at A-frame; if the system cannot register through another runner, and several runners pass simultaneously, and someone does not get registered, are they DQed. I hope the race directors have considered these issues and have a solution if problem occur.
