Posting a Follow-Up to
Tappering..... approaching the 30 day mark... HOOAH

I seldom walk during my training runs. Sometime I might walk up hills to practice for Pikes. I follow Hal Hidgon marathon training plan. However, I substitute Incline on treadmill or bleacher steps once a week instead of a 5-6 mile run. I followed "this" plan for the Pikes ascent. Same this year even though I am doing Pikes marathon. Every 2 weeks, I go on a 2 hour bike ride instead of running. I ride a walmart Mountain bike, so I pedel for 2 full hours. Want to stay healthy through training to get to the race. Some runners also swim more to get ready for Pikes. Long slow swims In response to: Do you do the majority of your weekly training miles walking as well? In response to: For Ascent, I taper 7 days because I walk about 10 of the 13 miles. My finish time was 4:09 last year and I live in Kansas. This year I am doing the marathon, so I will taper about 10-12 days, again due to walking during the race. My weekley miles ranges from 20-35 per week throughout the year. In response to: Not sure if you're asking for the PP Ascent or Marathon. I'd say two weeks or just a bit more for the Ascent, and more like three weeks for the Marathon. But I'm also interested in hearing what others have to say.
