Marathon effort question - Tidbits from the Pack...
7/30/2013 9:52:30 AM
Congrats, Jeff, on your first PPM attempt... Yes, go all out, up top. Give it your all. Both years that I Doubled, I put in the same effort for the Ascent portion of the PPM, as I did for the Ascent, the day before. An interesting tidbit - that I haven't figured out yet - is that on the second day, I had a negative split, for the Ascent... Both Years... Don't know how it happened, but it did. Felt great coming down... til I fell...LOL... NOW - HERE is SOME INFO that all Marathoners need to KNOW : Yes, we need to move aside for the faster runners coming down - BUT YOU DON'T NEED TO STOP !!! It takes more energy to stop/start than it does to just keep moving - slowly. So Don't STOP. Keep moving forward. Yes, it is possible to do so. Move aside, so they can get past you... but don't stop - especially if there are people behind you... There isn't enough room for a fast runner to come down, an uphill runner/walker/slogger to stop, and another uphill runner/walker to pass... so everyone just gets stacked up.... If you are by yourself & you want to stop, then by all means do. But don't hold up the line... That's NOT directed to you, Jeff, but to all those who are slogging away at the uphill... Good Luck to All!! Everyone have a Great race !!! WOOF ! Big Dog
