Preventing and Managing Altitude Sickness

For those of us flatlanders who can't acclimate beforehand, I wanted to inquire about the most effective suggestions for preventing and managing altitude sickness should it occur. I've done some internet research and read the PP site and have learned about the need to hydrate regularly (and likely more than I am used to) and eat/drink carbs before and during the event (again...more than I am likely used to). Some research suggested taking in 30 oz per hour of fluid and 240-280 cal/hr along with electrolytes during an event(I use EFS when running so the electrolytes are in there already in large quantity since I run in FL.) Others said to emphasize carbs and not fatty foods before an ascent and to take ibuprofen. I have seen references in posts to taking tums and Altoids but did not see them in any online articles reviewed. So, can any experienced and knowledgeable mountain trail running experts help the rest of us out...I expect to be out there between 5 to 6.5 hours? Thanks.
