All races still open?!

There is no nice way to say this, so I'll just be blunt and get right to the point: Matt's changes did not impact your ability to register. You dnf'ed last year. You DNF'ed in '07. You almost DNF'ed in '09. Your last good time was in '10, which would not have been good this year even under the old rules. This is not a 'fun run,' this is a race. The cutoffs and qualification times are there for a very good reason; afternoon thunderstorms are not an unlikely event, they are almost a guarantee. Keeping the course open any longer than they currently do is just asking for problems. Two out of the past three years I was wondering if my kids were going to grow up without me as the dark clouds rolled in after I packed up the aid station and made the 1.25 mile hike back _up_ to safety with an awkward 60lb pack on my back. I'd be all for them starting the day earlier if only there was a way to get the volunteers in place without them having to hike down a '14er in the dark. But there isn't. You are 58 this year. Statistically the average person in your AG finishes this race in a touch over 5 hours. That puts you way in front of the cutoff. Don't be a statistic. If you want to get back into this race, then you are going to have to make training for it a priority. It will not be quick, it will not be easy. You are capable of crushing your old PR. But only if you want to. The choice is yours.
