Ascent times: PPA vs. Ascent portion of PPM
3/19/2014 6:05:37 PM
Matt C. actually talks about this in his book… pg. 55. Not sure if it was a study, but he is a number cruncher and states doublers are on average only 6:21 seconds slower on day two doing the ascent portion of the marathon. He goes on to say many are actually faster and cites their fatigue from day one and going out slower at the beginning of the marathon as a possible cause or just very smart at pacing. I can attest to being faster on day two… happened to me once … and also went out way too fast one year of the Ascent and literally had to crawl the last quarter mile to finish and ended up in the medical tent. When PP veterans say go out slow in the beginning you will be faster overall, they know what they are talking about. Very tough not to fall victim to the sprinters in the beginning…. but you will pay for it above tree line. See ya on race day.
