Training for the Ascent and Marathon on Pikes Peak
By Matt Carpenter and Jim Freim
The races on Pikes Peak are unique. No other races of this length in the USA present such a severe challenge. The usual valuable advice in running magazines and books doesn’t and can’t address the training requirements for attempting a race on Pikes Peak.
The purpose of this guide is to prepare you for doing the Ascent, Marathon, or the Double, i.e., doing the Ascent on Saturday and
the Marathon on Sunday. Athletes of all abilities will benefit from this guide, from those wanting to beat the cutoff, to those
that want to win one of the races.
