In 1893 Katharine Lee Bates took a trip to the top of Pikes Peak. While on the summit the words to a poem started coming to her. Today, we know that poem as America the Beautiful.

The 2nd annual Pikes Peak Road Ascent will be held on September 16, 2012 on America’s Mountain. Runners will have an opportunity to race up the Pikes Peak Highway when they enter the Pikes Peak Road Ascent. More info at the Race Website.
