Why Am I running:
Love. I love getting to the top of this mountain...as fast as I can ;o} I love the hard core training with friends for it. I love the comaraderie and competition this race inspires.

Race Story:
I first entered in 1994, the year I quit my bike racing career, and I was just curious about it; I had never been to the top of PP, however as a cyclist living in Colorado Springs, we used to hike to Barr Camp in the winter time, so it felt like a "neat thing" to attempt. I was 7th in 3:04 and that felt pretty inspiring. I didn't enter again until '97, and had a really difficult day on the mountain, wanting to turn back at 5 miles with NO energy and feeling pretty sick, but I had a friend to meet at the top, so on I 'mushed' onward. In the upper section, I was part of a line of 'death marchers,' and I felt sorry for the mountain, like it was having to support this heavy burden of humans trudging on it! (I probably merely felt sorry for myself?!) Anyway, don't remember my time or place, but I thought I was 'done' with PP...Luckily, by 2005, I had forgotten my pact and had a fresh perspective of running the mountain. To my great surprise, I took an early lead in the race, and had an exciting finish with Cindy O just seconds behind...Last year, I put more into my training, nabbed a 4 inute PR, and again there was Cindy O, the SAME :38 seconds back... Can't wait to see what '07 brings; but first I ahve some training to do!!! CHEERS, lisag

He was a tremendous athlete who had stamina, athletic prowess, & mental toughness. He competed all these years with undiagnosed coronary artery disease. I fell in love with Phil in 1990 and bicycled from Denver to CO Springs to encourage him on his Ascent that year; he broke 3 hours that year, 1990. He glorified God in all he said and did and his memory will live on.

Race Story:
Yes, my 1st race was in 1991 and I was dating Phil at the time. He warned me at the start not to go out too fast, but I paid no heed. Well about 5 miles into the race, I started slowing down a bit and he came by & encouraged me and then yelled from above "I love you today, I loved you yesterday, and I will love you forever." He nicknamed me "the Starkmeister," because my maiden name was Stark. He was truly my soulmate. We did everything together and this year has been difficult. I lost my best friend.
