I have run it for over 20 years. I hold the course record for my age group 65-69, and just missed setting the course record for 70-74 by 2 minutes two years ago. Last year, trained hard, but fell on mountain training run two weeks before.

Race Story:
Fell two miles from top on descent, knocked self out on rock because looked back to chat with "Arkie". Managed to hike down despite headache and road rash. Volunteers checked me out every stop to make sure I could get down. They're the greatest!

As an avid trail runner of the mountains of Gunnison Colorado, running is my ultimate outlet. Running is my inter-personal connection, as well as my connection to nature. I spend at lot of time charging mountain passes, peaks, and local rolling hills...so the pikes peak marathon is my opprotunity to see where I stand with others sharing my passion. The marathon's tremendous elevation gain is also a huge challenge because my training starts higher up!

The 1999 Ascent was the first race I had ever run! Overwhelming feelings of euphoria is the only way I can describe reaching the top that year. Ever since I have been hooked and have worked hard to try and do better every year.

The 2006 Pikes Peak Marathon capped the greatest weeks of my life as my mother and I teamed up to raise awareness for Polycystic Kidney Disease. To get to the race I rode a bike from my home in St. Louis to Manitou Springs. Mom told her own story about PKD to educate others and raise awareness of the need for organ donors. I will never forget how lucky and fortunate I felt to have the chance to share that moment with my mom.
